Summary: They make each other’s days brighter
Every time I walk into his infirmary, he looks wan and pale. Fatigued, perhaps, or maybe just war-weary, like the rest of us. His emerald eyes seem deadened – nothing like the fire and flash that Neal has at all times. I think Baird wears the world on his rounded shoulders.
He looks at me, though, and smiles. It’s nothing like Neal’s smile, and isn’t the kind of grin that will win rapid heartbeats or swooning. But there’s something heart-warming about it, as though he’s waited all day to be able to flash this one smile at me. Like it’s his one chance to make my day brighter.
And it always works.
