Title: The Boy (II)
Rating: G
Length: 404
Competitor: Faleron
Round/Fight: 2A
Summary: Two weeks later.
A little more than two weeks later, Kel was standing in line for coffee with Yuki when a familiar face caught her eye. She turned her back on him, hoping he wouldn’t see her, or recognise her, or remember her. But Yuki caught on quickly.
“Who is it?” she asked, standing on tiptoe and looking across the cafe. Kel hissed at her to stop, but Yuki just grinned her mischievous little smile and poked Kel in the ribs. “Which one is it? Tell me Kel, or I’ll go over there and ask around myself.”
She would do it too, Kel knew. Rolling her eyes, Kel turned slightly until she could see behind her. He was looking up at the menu board, hands shoved into the pockets of his well-worn black jeans. Kel tried not to notice how cute he looked, or how he chewed on his lip and tapped his foot while he decided what to order. “That one,” she whispered at Yuki, already regretting pointing him out to her.
As she had anticipated, Yuki’s face lit up at the sight of him, eyes narrowing in an almost predatory manner. “He’s gorgeous.”
Kel screwed up her nose. “Yuki!”
“Well he is,” she said, smiling up at Kel, “and I think you should go talk to him.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No. Yuki – I met him on the bus,” said Kel in exasperation. “He could be a deranged mass murderer or something.”
“Or,” Yuki grinned impishly, “He could be the best lay of your life.”
Kel rolled her eyes. There was no talking to her when she was like this.
The two of them finally reached the counter, Yuki casting glances over at the boy the whole time. Kel sighed, pocketing her change and handing Yuki her coffee. She took a sip of her own coffee, and made the mistake of looking over at the boy from the bus. At that moment, he glanced across at her; their eyes met.
“s***.” Kel looked away quickly, slopping coffee on her shoe. Not sparing another glance for the boy, she grabbed Yuki by the arm and dragged her out of the cafe.
She hoped her hadn’t recognised her. But later, when she and Yuki were catching the bus back to her place, Kel couldn’t help but remember Yuki’s teasing words - and the way his eyes had widened slightly when their gazes had met in the cafe.
