Title: Fortune Rating: PG-13 Length: 168 Competitor: Faleron Round/Fight: 2/A Summary: Because he feels lucky.
…
How fortunate he is, he can’t help but think; with his hand gentle at the small of her back, in the silence after love when they close their eyes but do not sleep, his head resting against her breast, her arms linked loose and confident around his shoulders, cradling him in a way that makes him think of all the nights in the North, the death of his comrades all around, the civilians he couldn’t save, and suddenly he is trembling, cold and terrified, the snow sinking into his skin and festering there, the silence of ambush, the Black God walking palpably between them, picking out their brightest and most beautiful as subjects, so spoilt for choice in these endless gorges and ravines and mountain peaks, frozen over with blood. ‘We’re in Corus, Fal,’ says Keladry, and he is back in her arms, breathing her scent (water and sesame) while she runs her fingers through his hair, presses her brow to his, kisses the tears from his skin.

I love how this is written, it's sweet, but still shows the realities of war.
