How did it happen? Raoul pounded the training dummy and frowned at himself. Maybe I’ve been hanging around Jon too long, he mused. He knew what they said about Contés and their squires. He smirked as the thought amused him. Then frowned and cursed as this thought brought him back to thoughts of Keladry. He redoubled his efforts with the training dummy.
How could he let himself fall in love with Keladry? If it was love that is. He still wasn’t convinced what it was. But he couldn’t stop thinking about her. How good she looked in the saddle, advancing on him with a lance in her hand. Or how his heart stopped when she looked at him with that rare soft and unguarded expression on her face, after they’d ... after...
No. With a forceful shake of his head, he told himself to put away those inappropriate thoughts. He had to avoid her. That was all. He’s no longer her knight master now, so he didn’t have to be around her. That’s the only thing to do. He will avoid Keladry of Mindelan.
“Lord Raoul, I didn’t know you were here.” Keladry strolled onto the practice courts. “Good. Now we can practice together. It’s more satisfying that way.”
