“Do you really think that we need a chaperone?” Dom asked doubtfully, staring at Raoul who waited by the gates. “All we’re doing is going into town. Go find a good eating house, maybe check out a few vendors...”
Kel frowned up at him. “First of all,” she told him, “Raoul is a friend, not a chaperone. You’ve seen for yourself that he’s been feeling a bit down lately while his wife is closed up with the queen. I thought it would be nice if we invited him with us.”
Sullenly, Dom folded his arms. “And second?” he prodded, a sulky look on his face that, while appealing to many women according to his extensive experience, only served to make Kel roll her eyes.
“And second of all, I just don’t trust being alone with you.”
This had Dom choking on the air he was breathing. “You have problems with being alone with me?” he spluttered. “I have never made a single untoward gesture concerning you. From what are you basing this paranoia?”
She didn’t even award him with an answer as they neared Raoul, instead directing her smile toward her former knightmaster. “Shall we?” she asked him, and he offered his arm as if he were the one courting her. When Kel took Raoul’s arm and turned toward the road, Dom was left to stare at them with his mouth open.

Well, of course It has nothing to do with the fact that there is a big, brawny, experienced man at their fingertips.
