Title: Two’s Company Rating: G Length: 218 Competitor: Raoul Round/Fight: 2/A Summary: Kel confronts Raoul.
-
She found him in the library, sitting quietly with an open book on war history in his lap, steadily turning pages as if he didn’t notice her presence. Though she knew better, Kel waited, and eventually cleared her throat.
A startled look on his face, Raoul glanced up. “Oh, Kel,” said the bigger man pleasantly. “I didn’t realise you were waiting to get my attention. I was terribly engrossed in this – well, I can’t call it a fine piece of literature, because it isn’t literature and it isn’t fine.”
Kel arched a brow and continued to wait.

“I don’t play chess, but thanks,” Kel responded, and when Raoul looked at her again, she said very pointedly, “Is it necessary to be holing yourself away up here? Are you sulking because your wife is not here to entertain you?”
“I’m doing no such thing!” he blustered, raising his hands as if to ward off the accusation. “I spend plenty of time with others – well, not at dinners, but I practice weaponry with the men, and – ”
“If you’re lonely,” Kel broke in quietly, “then you can just say so.”

I actually think that this fic (series?) should have gone in a totally different (R-rated) direction. Unfortunately, I don't have the imagination.
