Summary: Kel pieces together what Raoul's missed
Raoul escorted Kel outside to the gardens, both knights missing the odd looks and whispers that followed their abrupt departure.
As they sat themselves on a blessedly secluded bench Kel noticed he was still holding her hand. She didn’t take it away. Heat shot up her arm. Had she mentioned Buri to him already?
“Kel?”
Raoul’s hand turned her face gently to look at his, they were close enough she could count every one of his long black eyelashes.
“Yes?”
He frowned.
“Raoul.”
Their lips were almost touching, Kel closed her eyes.
“What’s wrong with Buri?”
Kel had expected him to jump back, not Raoul’s lips against hers.
“She’s been sick the last few days,” he said against her hair, his hands pulling her close.
Kel let him, one of her hands tangled in his curly hair, the other on his belt, trying to get it undone. What about Buri?
“Don’t know why Thayet didn’t make her come tonight…” He kissed her again, “She’s only been sick in the mornings…”
Kel froze.
