Title: Ask Alanna: Part Two - Kel Rating: G Length: 214 Competitor: Raoul Round/Fight: 2/A Summary: Alanna should have a column for this stuff.
-
The second time it happened, Alanna was sitting in the mess hall with the soldiers. She’d just sat down with her tray of food, eyeing the men further down the table as they discussed a game of cards that night, when Kel sat down beside her. The young knight didn’t say a word, but simply shovelled the food into her mouth, eyes fixed on her plate. Alanna waited. Some of these habits Kel might have had to begin with, but after four years with the Giantkiller, she was sure to have picked something up.
Eventually Kel slowed down, and without looking at Alanna said, “How do you handle being both a knight and a wife?”
Just as before, it was the topic rather than the sudden start that caught Alanna off-guard. She choked on her cider and, after Kel gave her a firm pat on the back, managed, “Well, for starters, I don’t marry a fellow knight.”
A glance up at the younger woman’s keen expression had her adding, “And I didn’t marry my knight-master.”
This time it was Kel’s face to flush, and she nearly leapt to her feet, mumbling something about latrines and horses and paperwork. Alanna shook her head, watching Kel go. People should be paying her for advice like this.

Alanna has a point here. And I'd love to see her being a columnist. ;D
