Title: Ask Alanna: Part One - Raoul Rating: G Length: 218 Competitor: Raoul Round/Fight: 2/A Summary: Alanna should have a column for this stuff.
-
The first time it happened, Alanna was sitting on the fence overlooking the page’s practice yard. She had only been sitting there for fifteen minutes or so, watching the staff work and wanting to commend the new training master on his work, when Raoul approached. Her friend was quiet for a minute, folding his arms on the top bar of the fence and leaning his chin against them. Alanna waited. If he had something to say, he’d say it, or else he’d walk away.
“Did you and Jon ever – I mean, when you were a squire – was there – ” No, she wasn’t surprised when he broke the silence, but his choice of topic caught her off guard.
“Oh,” she said, staring around at Raoul and frowning at him.
He was looking at her with a look of consternation on his broad face, and even without clarification, she knew what he was thinking. “No,” she said firmly, sliding off the fence to stand beside him. “And you shouldn’t either.” Raoul’s cheeks reddened; whether from shame or something else, Alanna didn’t know. Quietly, she added, “Getting involved with your squire is not something I would recommend.”
Raoul didn’t answer, and she touched his arm before walking away from the practice yard. She would catch up with the training master later.
