“My Lord? Raoul? Raoul?”
Kel knelt awkwardly in her dress to look at the famed Giantkiller who had seemingly passed out at the mention of a baby.
“Raoul, get up!” She pulled on his arm, “I could be wrong, Buri might not be pregnant at all, Raoul! Please get up!”
Kel tried to get him into a sitting position, but at six foot four he had to weigh over two hundred pounds. Of dead weight to boot. Kel groaned. This was not turning out to be such a wonderful night. Next time, she decided, she’d let him stay behind his curtain. She wondered briefly if she should go get help, but impending questions and explanations stopped her. Instead she shook his shoulder.
“Raoul! Wake up!”
“Kel?”
She jumped to her feet, well away from Raoul.
“My Lord said you were feeling unwell.”
Buri arched an eyebrow. “I came to rescue him. When I asked for him at the ball I was told you’d brought him out here to seduce him.”
Kel struggled to keep her face blank, “I never intended to seduce your husband—“
Buri’s hand covered her mouth.
“We’ll talk about that later, when he’s conscious. For now, grab his arm, we’ll take him back to our rooms.”
