Title: Summer (iv) Rating: PG Length: 183 Competitor: Raoul Round/Fight: 2/A Summary: He dies in the summer.
-
He dies in the summer, the giant-killer become the giant-killed. No one is surprised, least of all his wife, and so she keeps her composure when she is first told. It is Captain Whiteford who delivers the missive bearing the news and if there is any man she can cry in front of, it is this one. With one look she can see every word left unspoken; she can see her husband still weak from Healing, braced without his lance. In her imagination she can hear the shouts of the men as they try to fight their way towards their commander, and she can hear him roar his cry of battle as he takes on a creature without a proper weapon.
The captain looks away; he takes her hand in his and she can see that he wants to break down and is just waiting for permission she refuses to give. With a deep breath and the self-assurance that she will weep later, alone, Buri forces herself to ask the question she knows Flyndan is not expecting to hear.
“Has anyone told Kel?”
