“Domitan seems like a nice young man,” Ilane remarked as she poured them each a cup of tea. Kel took hers with a small smile, thinking how wrong her mother was.
A nice young man didn’t kiss you until your lips bled, or leave your neck covered in a trail of mottled bruises which you then had to somehow hide from your squad.
A nice young man didn’t pin you to the door as soon as you closed it, already fumbling at your breeches while you struggled to tug off his shirt.
A nice young man didn’t grab you roughly by the hips and half carry you to the bed, only to throw you down on your back and spread your legs with his hand.
“What?” Kel realised her mother had said something.
Ilane smiled at her daughter, eyes crinkling over the top of her teacup. “I only asked if you were happy, dear.”
“Oh, yes,” said Kel, raising her own cup to hide her growing smile. “Very.”
