Title: Seasons of Love
Rating: PG
Length: 379
Competitor: Dom
Round/Fight: 2/B
Summary: Kel/Dom fluff
Summer
It is too hot to ride, too hot to do anything. They leave the horses to roam where they please, and lie down amongst the tall, yellow grass. Dom sneezes when she reaches across and tickles him on the face with a piece of plucked grass seed, and she laughs happily to be lying under the buttery, midday sun.
Later, when afternoon arrives and they make their way back to the palace, they will walk hand in hand, still sweltering under the summer heat. The heat refuses to disappear with nightfall, but sometimes even that doesn’t stop them from making love, sweaty and wonderful with a faint breeze seeping in through the crack of the window, before slipping into an exhausted sleep, to do it all over again tomorrow.
Autumn
It is the worst time of year, Kel thinks as she trudges back to the mess hall. Leaves crunch underfoot, crackling in silent pain as she wonders what Dom is doing.
Autumn is the beginning of the end, or, at least, simply the beginning. It is difficult to remain hopeful, about anything, when he is away fighting bandits and such, while she must remain and attend to things that she had never before considered boring or dull, like math and inventory.
She likes to think that it is the beginning.
Winter
Everyone comes home. Kel delights in the Midwinter celebrations, if only because her family is together, at last. She laughs at Neal’s odd attempts at humour, admires Lalasa’s latest creations for the court ladies, and discusses politics with Myles and Alanna, the strangest couple that one could imagine, if you weren’t witness to their natural affection and Myles’ fatherly gaze.
But, the sweetest gift of all comes after everyone retires, and Kel finds herself alone, breathing his breath, as if that is all that matters. And it is.
Spring
It doesn’t bother her that she has grass stains on her clothes that will surely take many months to clean. She leans down and kisses him, slowly, until he rolls her over once more, his dark hair sticking up in all sorts of odd places that makes her giggle. The sky behind him is the colour of his eyes, and Kel kisses him again, imagining she is flying.
