Title: Black Poppies rework
Rating: PG
Length: 309
Competitor: Dom
Summary: Song inspired! (Come undone Greg Laswell)
She was sick and sweating, and all Dom could do was watch. He sat by her bed, he was coming undone, that much was plain. Neal had told him to get sleep numerous times, but he hadn’t listened. As the days went by he braced himself for the worst. She was going to leave him, and he had never told her how he felt. But every day he still sat by her and wished her sweet dreams and kissed her forehead. After the second week he began to wonder if he should give in, perhaps he should go and come back. Get some sleep. Then Raoul was there, he hadn’t even heard them ride in. For a minute he just stood there absorbing the scene in front of him; Dom clutching Kel’s hand and Kel, pale and shining with seat. Over the next few days Kel was moved so that Duke Baird could see her. He had dealt with severe sicknesses before and Kel would be best in his hands.
Soon after moving her the whispers began, Kel was gasping and muttering under her breath. Duke Baird said they were hallucinations that her body was creating to keep her mind active. Dom became more worried. But if you listened close enough to her half the whispers were Dom’s name and that made him smile some. Perhaps she wasn’t giving in, she wasn’t going to leave him.
For weeks she spoke silently, through the nights, through his uncles treatments until about a month after she got sick she opened her eyes. She whispered his name once more and Dom completely came undone. The tears came to his eyes without him knowing and he smiled at her. She was never going to leave him; he whispered back this once that he missed her, and loved her, because she could hear him
