Summary: Where does Buri know that scent from?
Buri sat at the window, staring out at the sky. She knew the perfume. She just couldn’t place it. She kept going over and over in her mind ‘Where do I know this scent from?’
But no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t place it.
She knew it was a woman’s perfume. She just couldn’t think how it got onto Raoul’s shirt and tunic.
She could imagine, but surely Raoul wouldn’t do that to her. He couldn’t. not now.
Frustrated she got up, grabbed a bow, and walked out to find an archery practice court and a target to shoot.
She heard laughing and looked over and saw Raoul and Keladry leaning on a fence laughing together and watching some pages training. Keladry must be thinking of taking a squire . . . Keladry . . .
It hit her like a crossbow arrow. The memory flooded her until she could see nothing else.
“Buri, smell this,” Kel said, waving a bottle under her nose.
“Smell’s nice,” Buri replied.
“I know. Perfume is a stupid thing for a knight to buy, I know, but this just smells so wonderful,” she said.
“Where did you get it?”
“Oh, I picked it up from the markets near Tyra . . .”
Buri’s heart constricted, and her breath left her body. Her stomach twisted.
No. Raoul and Keladry couldn’t be . . .
