Throughout her stay at Steadfast Raoul noticed that Kel was never outside during the day—or if she was, she was inside or in the shadows. He found himself missing the way the sun reflected the shimmering golden highlights in her brown hair. There was something: Kel never stood in the sun. Sergeant Domitan avoided the sunlight too, Raoul’s brain whispered to him. Whatever had happened to Kel, Dom must have been responsible. Raoul leaned against the front of his desk wondering whether or not he should be pleased with whatever his Sergeant may have done to Kel as he watched her glide through his open door. There was a gleam in her eyes as she met his with a smile that could only be defined as wicked.
