Summary: Raoul has a thought.
Raoul wasn’t dealing with the loss of Buri well at all. He seemed fine, if not tired, and Kel could swear, hung-over. But Raoul never drank. Or if he was he was now doing so in private.
Kel watched him go, and followed after him.
“I’ll be right back,” she told Neal.
“Huh?” Neal said looking after her, not having heard a word she said as he read a letter from Yuki.
“Raoul!” she called out. He stopped and looked back to see her walking towards him.
“Yes?” he asked.
Kel stared at him. She knew better to ask a man if he was okay. So she tried a different tactic.
“Would you like to help me go over some papers? I have a stack of them, and I’ll admit I’ve been a bit slack,” she said smiling. “It would help me a lot.”
Raoul looked at her and smiled. He knew what she was doing, and he was happy that at least someone wasn’t treating him like a cracked glass ball. He was fed up with the “Raoul, are you OK?” and “How are you doing?” and all the other usual condolences dished out when someone loses one they loved.
“Sure, why not?” he answered, and as he followed her to her office he couldn‘t help thinking, ‘If only I were twenty years younger . . .’
