“Owen seems... nice,” Adalia began, tilting her head on one side.
“He is,” Kel confirmed, setting her quill down to let her sister get on with whatever it was she had to say – past experience had taught Kel that she would never finish this letter otherwise.
“And you’re... happy with him. He makes you happy.”
It was about the age difference, then – or, rather, the fact that the age difference was the wrong way around, as Adie saw it. “He’s an optimist. It’s not difficult to be in good spirits when he's around.”
There were things that Adalia quite clearly wanted to say, about his suitability, and his broken engagement, and his exuberance, but she kept them all to herself. “That’s good. I think you need somebody cheerful to stop you being so serious all the time.”
