When Kel was younger she had a crush on Neal. The feeling had faded quite a bit, but never completely. Years later that crush came back, but in a different form: love.
There was something magical about Neal that made Kel feel giddy inside. She loved the sound of his voice after he had done something particularly stupid, the way he stood up to Lord Wyldon when he disagreed with him, and most of all, the way he treated her.
Neal treated Kel as a friend, albeit a very close one. It was the way Kel wanted her relationships to be, unobtrusive and real. Most girls would want something more, but Neal was enough for Kel.
