Summary: Owen can’t keep his promises
“Owen?” Kel asked sleepily, as he rolled away from her. “Where are you going?”
That was the thing about border patrol. He always seemed to fall into bed with Kel.
“I’ll be back in a minute,” he promised her, but he didn’t mean it. He seemed to be making a lot of promises he didn't keep lately, like the promises he had made Margarry when they’d married. Then there were the promises he had made Wyldon about looking after his daughter. At least he’d meant all those – nothing like the hot promises he’d whispered into Kel’s ear and regretted come the morning.
She didn’t know he didn’t mean them. She expected him to leave Margarry. And Wyldon expected him to take care of Margarry, and Margarry herself expected him to love, honour, and obey her.
Why shouldn’t they? He had promised he would, after all.
