The Way I Am (X/X)
Title: You Take Me the Way I Am Rating: PG Length: 175 Character: Wyldon Summary: a miscarriage tests their strength.
“I’m sorry,” he apologizes when he’s finally allowed in her room again. The midwife is taking away bloodied rags, and Keladry is wan.
“It wasn’t the argument that caused this,” she says, her voice a monotone.
“It couldn’t have helped.”
She gazes at him, her eyes direct and sad. “The Palace healers say I can’t have more children, Wyldon.”
He curses himself a thousand times. “Keladry,” he begins, his voice thick with emotion.
“It wasn’t your fault. It was a medical complication, Duke Baird says. He says my body saw hers as an illness, because our blood was different. It fought against her. And if this happens once, it’ll keep happening. My body will destroy any child we conceive.” Tears slip down her cheeks. “I’m sorry.”
He sits on the bed and pulls her into his arms, comforting her.
“I’m sorry we won’t have more children. I feel like I’ve doubly failed you. Us.”
“Shh,” he soothes. “I love you the way you are, Keladry. More children or no children. I’m just glad you’re safe.”

Thank you both... I didn't want to end it on such a sad note, so I like to think of their strength instead

@this hits home for me, because my mother had that particular complication (although milder) while pregnant with me. In our time, it can be treated. Not in Kel and Wyldon's. You write absolutely beautifully.
