Title: Arrival
Rating: G
Length: 290 words
Competitor: Raoul
Round: Finals
Summary: Kel's lead up to meeting the legend.
She’d researched his name, lingered over the results in Google and aspired to be like him. And now she was being posted under his command. It was a dream in the flesh, but she knew it wouldn’t be easy. Nothing was, in the path she’d chosen. But to work under the elusive pseudonym known only as Giantkiller was better luck then she could have ever imagined.
“For now, Kel, I’ve got one of the OWN men to show you around.”
“Own?”
“O.W.N. It’s our main group. We also have the Riders, but the OWN is our main.”
She nodded, trying not to show her curiosity.
“One of the men will be here soon to show you around. And as usual, he’s far too early.” He broke off to grin as the door opened. “Sergeant D, Keladry. Dom, Kel.”
A handsome head poked around the door, and blue eyes winked at her.
“ ‘Killer will see her now, if she’s ready.” Dom grinned, wolflike.
“Play nice.”
“Oh, she’s ready.” She pushed herself off the wall, and nodded in thanks to George. “Where to, Sergeant?”
He grinned and led her through a myriad of hallways, until abandoning her at a solid, plain looking door.
“You know what to do.”
She doesn’t smile back, and for the first time in years feels the unfamiliar stirrings of fear. She raises a hand, tentative like she never had been before, and knocks on the door.
“Come in,” A solid voice replies, and she can almost imagine the presence beyond the voice. Excitement at meeting a legend in her field arises, and she reminds herself that she is no longer a little girl, and is equal to everyone here. Even if they don’t know it yet.
