As a gaggle of giggling children ran by, Owen turned to Kel and asked quietly, “Do you think you’ll have children?”
Kel stared at the children as they disappeared down the hill. “I don’t know,” she said quietly, “I have lots of things I want to do before then.” She looked up at him and smiled. “But that’s a long time from now.”
Owen smiled back at her. “It is, and you have plenty of time to decide if you want children, let alone who you want to have them with.”
“But that time’s drawing closer,” Kel argued, “We’ve been knights for a few years. It’s going to be expected that I marry soon. And I think I have an idea of who I want to have children with.” She winked at Owen, and his heart began to beat faster. Could Kel mean that she wants to have children with me? There’s only one way to find out.
Owen opened his mouth to ask Kel a question that he had waiting to ask for years, but Kel interrupted him. “Yes Owen, I’ll marry you.”
