The question itself wasn’t what had surprised Kel; the surprise came from the fact that it had taken Dom this long to finally ask it. If anyone had been paying attention – and she’d be the first to admit that Domitan of Masbolle was among the more astute of men she’d seen socially in the past – they’d have brought up the point of paternity far earlier.
Even so, she hesitated, meeting Dom’s eyes squarely before answering, “Lord Raoul.”
To his credit, Dom didn’t choke. His expression simply tightened, and she could see his jaw flex as he clenched his teeth. “Does he know?”
Again, she paused, then closed her eyes and replied, “No.” There was one way to keep her honour – and Raoul’s – in this. “And he can’t find out.”
