Title: With A Bow On Top
Rating: G
Card: 1
Bingo: friendship + opportunity + music + gifts + away from home
Summary: some presents are better than others, and this is one of the best.
A/N: I'm in a fluffy mood, can't you tell?
-
"It's cold outside."
"I know."
Kel sits on the hilltop near Fort Mastiff, hugging her knees to her chest. Dom is next to her, legs stretched out in front of him and leaning back on his hands.
"You could always go back inside to the party."
"With the rest of the Own and my cousin going around being a strop over his impending fatherhood? It was fine for a while, but I want to look at the stars." With you, he adds in his head, and Kel smiles like she can hear the last part out loud.
It is indeed a lovely night. They aren't far from the party, and the strains of music can still be heard, if one listens closely. She slides closer to Dom and leans her head on his shoulder, tapping out the melody with her fingers on his kneecap.
"That tickles," he mutters, and she sighs and laughs. He tilts his head down onto hers, breathing in and out rhythmically.
"Dom," she eventually says, quiet words curling out into the night, "you know how last year I said that when the war was over we could-" the end of her sentence hangs in the air.
"I do remember," Dom says. His hand slides into hers, tucking over it. He runs a finger over the tendons of her wrist and she hums in appreciation.
"I don't know how long we'll both still be posted here, but I don't know if I want to wait any longer. Make you wait any longer, really."
He kisses the top of her head lightly, tentatively. "Really?"
She twists up to meet his lips. "Happy Midwinter, Dom."
"Best present I've gotten yet."
Kel laughs, and it starts to snow. He kisses her again.
