Title: Drinking and Women
Rating: R
Card: 1
Bingo: Alcohol + Luck + Frivolity + Forgiveness + Away from Home
Summary:Raoul drinks too much at a party and tries to take advantage of Buri forcing Jon to give an ultimatum.
For Raoul, the beginning of the end started at a Midwinter party. Everyone was drinking, and he was drinking with them. As usual, he had had too much, but he never knew when to stop. For him, the party didn’t end until he was s***-faced on the floor, often the next morning. He tried to laugh and socialize with everyone. These parties were supposed to be fun, and the wine made everything so much easier.
Raoul was several drinks past too many when he saw Buri across the room and thought that maybe tonight would be the night he was finally able to get lucky. Approaching her, he slurred, “Midwinter kiss for luck.”
Taking him by the arm, she led him out of the room.
“Should I take that as a yes?”
“No, Raoul, no. Take a hint. You need to go back to your room and lie down. You won’t remember this in the morning. I’ll make your excuses to his majesty.”
Grabbing her in his arms, he forced his face down onto her. In a struggle to escape his grasp, Buri brought a knee up into his groin, spinning away from him as he doubled over from the pain. “Mithros, Gods, Raoul. No means no. I’m sorry, but no.”
As she ran off in the opposite direction, he steadied himself and headed out of the palace. It was probably an hour later when he found himself in the Dove. Walking over, he approached a lady of the night, and once again, he found himself asking, “Midwinter kiss for luck?”
This time the woman took him up on his offer and so much more. It turned out that for a small fee he would be getting lucky tonight.

Buri was crying in her room around the same time that Raoul was off in the lower city when Thayet approached her oldest friend. “I couldn’t help but notice you and Raoul left around the same time. Are you okay?’
“Yes. . .No. I don’t know. He was drunk. Too drunk. It was terrible. How did you ever notice us in that crowd?”
“I’m so sorry,” Thayet tried to be reassuring knowing she would probably fail, but if she didn’t say anything, it would be worse.
Buri kept crying while the queen reduced to friend, best, oldest friend held her.

Many hours later, the king and queen were seated in their private chambers.
“I knew it was bad. We both did. That’s why we have been keeping an eye on him, but tonight was too far.”
“I know.”
“We need to come up with something to keep this from ever happening again.”
“I have an idea, that I can only hope will work.”

That same morning even before the sun rose, Johnny banged at a certain door at the dove. He hadn’t been there since before he had been officially named king. It was too dangerous now, but not dealing with this situation would be even more dangerous. Without waiting for the door to be answered, he forced the door open.
“You out,” he bellowed pointing to the young women in the bed with Raoul. She gathered her clothes and fled the room. He may not be her king, but she knew who she had slept with, and who his king was.
“We need to discuss last night,” the king said as he sat next to his Knight Commander.
“I’m sorry for whatever I did, but I can’t remember what I did.”
“That’s what I’m talking about. If this doesn’t stop, I will make sure you return to Goldenlake and never leave.”
“That could be worse.”
“You can’t be Knight Commander from Goldenlake.”
“You wouldn’t?”
Glaring at his friend, Jon made it very, very clear that he was extremely serious. “Oh, and I’m not the one you should be apologizing to, but I wouldn’t go near Buri until you have been sober for a good long while.”
