Title: Snow Fight
Ratings (and Warnings): G
Prompt: Winter (and some Family)
Summary: A freaky winter in Emelan brings snow, which Evvy hates and Pasco loves.
Notes: I'm pretty sure Emelan doesn't get snow, but the Circle didn't stay for winter in Namorn.
...
Evvy scowled and grumbled quietly to herself, huddled safe in the rocks surrounding the Citadel. She glared out at Pasco, gleefully dancing as snowflakes spun and fell through the air around him. If only she was home at Discipline, instead of with Lark visiting Yasmin and the Duke and him.
“What’s wrong, Evvy? It’s glorious. Don’t you just love snow, and winter, and the feel of the smooth ice underneath your feet?” Pasco yelled, his laughter echoing as he came closer, shaking the snow out of his hair.
“No, I don’t. If you had any sanity, you wouldn’t either.” Pasco sat in the snow, keeping distance between them.
“What’s wrong with it? It’s not like it interferes with your magic or anything. When you think about it, snow can clump together to form hard things, like dirt and rocks.”
“Don’t you know anything, Pasco? Why you even bother -“
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nothing could make me stop loving winter. Especially when it snows. It never snows.”
“It’s snowing now, Pasco.” She hid her smile as she realised how to make Pasco hate winter as much as she did. Snow could clump together to form hard things, and if so, it should hurt as much as if she threw rocks at him, which he’d know to dance away from. But this would be unexpected. Snow was cold, and gross, and sticky. And wet. She’d had enough of being wet, and tired in Gyongxe. She casually ran her hand through the snow, and began forming a ball of snow. Pasco was still jabbering about winter, and not noticing what she was doing. She smiled.
“Pasco?” She smiled sweetly.
“What?” His voice trailed off. She held up the snowball, and quickly threw it at his head.
“Evvy, don’t you –“ Snow covered his face, and he spat a mouthful out. “Gross. Fine. You want to throw snowballs at me. See how you like it.”
…
Lark shook her head as she watched absently through the window. Evvy and Pasco were chasing each other around the courtyard, each armed with an arsenal of snowballs, and their laughter and cries were almost able to be heard. It reminded her of her four. They would be home in time for Midwinter.
