Title: All I Want For Midwinter Is You
Rating (and Warnings): PG
Prompt: #6 Mistletoe
Summary: Kel/Seaver fluff
Kel collapsed backwards on her bed, exhausted from a long night of dancing. She kicked off her slippers and slid her sore feet under the sheet, sighing at the warmth. Taking off her dress and pulling her nightshirt over her head had completely taken all energy out of her. Sleep was a welcome thought.
Looking handsome in Tasride colours, a warm brown tunic edged in gold, Seaver leaned against the doorframe, one hand hidden behind his back. Kel surveyed him with tired eyes. "Are you staying?"
Seaver bit back a yawn, before closing the door behind him. "Yes. If I tried to to stumble back to my room in this condition, I'd be asleep before I took a step." Crossing the room with halting steps, kicking off his own shoes in the process, he lay down next to her somewhat awkwardly on the too-small bed, his hand still behind his back.
Kel looked at him through rapidly closing eyelids. "What have you got?" she sighed, propping her head up in her hand. Sleep was looking so very tempting right now.
He smiled, white teeth shining in the darkness of the room; he looked very proud of himself, like a young boy. With a swiftness that was slightly hindered by his aching body and the late hour, he pulled from behind his back...a sprig of mistletoe.
The mistletoe was difficult to see without any candles lit, but Kel had recognised it due to the ridiculous amount of it that had been hung around the ball room. It had been quite funny watching her yearmates and their former knightmasters trying to avoid it. She herself had found herself stuck under it many times tonight, with her different dance partners. Neal had grinned down at her when she had at last kissed him on the cheek, to put an end to his stupid ramblings, she had told him. Kel looked at the piece that Seaver now held between them.
"I think this is cheating, you know," she said drowsily. "It's supposed to be hung from the ceiling, or above a doorway, or something."
Seaver rolled his eyes. "Cheating? I thought there were no rules when it came to mistletoe. Except for the kissing part," he added quickly. Kel still didn't look convinced. "Alright, I'll hang it up in the morning, if it bothers you so much," he said, "Just...kiss me?"
How could she refuse? Leaning forwards across the short space between them, their lips met quietly, moulding together, a perfect fit. Out of the corner of her eye, Kel saw Seaver fling the mistletoe from his hand, to wrap his arm around her waist. The kiss seemed to last an age, though she knew it was only because of the darkness, a long night of dancing, and too much wine. Seaver drew away at last to plant a soft kiss on her cheek, and to murmur a quiet goodnight in her ear.
When she eventually awoke the next morning - or perhaps it was closer to noon, judging by the bright sunlight that streamed in through her shutters - the sight of the mistletoe lying on the floor made her smile to herself. Snuggling closer against Seaver, she went back to sleep.
