Title: Odd One Out Rating (and Warnings): G Prompt: #10 Iceskating Summary: Emelan!fic Old habits die hard, but new habits are even harder to begin for Briar.
Briar eyed the lake suspiciously. "There is no way I'm doing that." Daja rolled her eyes and gestured impatiently to her foster-brother with mittened hands, her breath visible on the chilly air each time she exhaled. "Come on, Briar, don't be a spoilsport! Besides, everyone else is out there." He looked over her shoulder to the figures on the ice. Sandry was making her way across the broad expanse of frozen water determinedly, her cheeks flushed in comparison to her pale white skin. Even Tris had tottered out onto the ice, and was now steadily working up a rhythm. "No way Daja," Briar replied, dusting snow from his shoulders in an irritated manner. "I hate snow, and I especially hate ice. Do you know what ice does to plants?" Daja waved a hand at him dismissively and turned to head back out onto the ice. She skated well, confidently, Briar couldn't help but notice. Buth then again, she had had more practise at it than any of them. He stood in silence for a moment, painfully aware of the wetness that was slowly creeping into his socks and boots. It did look like fun, he couldn't help but admit to himself. In some cases though, that old saying was true: you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Taking one last look at the three girls frolicking about on the ice, Briar turned and trudged back up the hill.

Yay, Emelan!fic!! This is awesome. I love how Daja likes to ice-skate and Briar's the one against it.

Seconding Isha -> Yay! Emelan!fic!!! Midwinter/Longnight shouldn't be entirely Tortall-verse oriented, after all!! Briar is the perfect choice for disliking iceskating. I still have problems imagining him wearing shoes, let alone skates.

I love it! Briar wouldn't like the looking-like-an-idiot part of learning to skate at ALL.
