Graeme of Nond thinks his twin is his sister. She looks like their mother Adalia, with hazel eyes and a delicate nose. Eyal is headstrong like their father, and though they are not identical twins, he knows what she is thinking and feeling.
They fence together in his yard, and they move so alike that it's hard to beat her- she knows what he'll do next.
But one day, their aunt Keladry visits her sister, and spends time with Graeme and Eyal correcting their stances and showing them new ways to wield the staff. Graeme looks at his aunt, and then at his sister. He sees how they stand, how Ayal's shoulders are strong and how she tilts her head to a certain angle, exactly like Kel.
And suddenly, Graeme knows.
