Title: Unnatural Rating: PG Word Count: ~200 Summary: Emelan!fic. An attack on Winding Circle.
Silas tightened the grip on his mace and tried to steady his breathing. The boat rocked unsteadily beneath them. Beside him, Marel was shivering slightly, eyes focused on the shore: their destination. The water was becoming rougher by the second. Silas resisted the urge to look up at the sky, afraid of what he would see: dark clouds rolling in at an impossible speed, lightining crackling underneath the surface, waiting. Instead, he licked his lips, tasting the salt there, and ran his mind over the plan once more. It had no hope of working. Yet here they all were, sitting in their boats, waiting to die. After a moment, they were given the signal. The boats started toward the shore. Silas watched as it got closer and closer, until he could see the grainy slope of sand that was the beach. When he stepped out, ankle deep in water, the other men around him rushing to leave their own boats as the sky above them rumbled, Silas made a silent promise to himself. I will die by steel breaking my skin, or I will be swallowed by the sea. But I will not die at the hands of that witch.
