Title: Pride and Joy Rating: G Prompt: #1 Feelings and Emotions Category: 100 words Word Count: 100 Summary: After many trials and intense pain, King Roald is presented with his heart’s desire. -----
“She is delivered.”
“Is she—and the baby—?”
“She is well. And so is he.”
“He...I have a son?”
“See for yourself, Your Highness.”
A woman slipped out of Queen Lianne’s chambers, beaming, and handed the bundled she carried to Roald. He accepted it nervously, his inexperienced hands awkwardly cradling it against his breast. He stared down in awe at the red, furiously scrunched face. The baby was still keening his protests at the injustice of birth.
Black-haired, blue-eyed, beautiful, he was truly a son of Conté.
My son, Roald thought, and bowed his head to weep.

The powerful last line fits this scene very well- I love how Roald is expressing the pure happiness and awe of a father here, rather than the relief of a king who finally has an heir. A very human moment that was a lovely idea to capture.

Thank you so much - I'm glad you saw Roald the man, instead of the king; it's exactly what I was going for.

I love the description of his nerves and clumsiness, and I think you did a really good job showing Roald as the man instead of the king. And all in 100 words! Good job I think I've been reading to much PotS fic. XP I assumed it was Roald jr and did a double take at Lianne's name...*sigh*

I love that a history of grief and trial has finally produced a little piece of joy, although it's the only one they'll ever get. Wonderful take on the prompt!
