Title: Rich Rating: G Prompt: #1 Feelings and emotions Category: up to 250 words Word count: 221 Warnings: TC/TQ Spoilers Summary: Zaimid wonders if he has done the right thing.
Zaimid Hetnim watched as his wife read through the letter in her hands, her forehead creased in concentration as she drank in her sister’s words. Her long, glossy black hair was secured in a bun at the nape of her neck.
Sarai finished her letter and looked up with a weary smile. “Dove is well.” She folded the bit of paper and put it away in the desk, and Zaimid frowned at the way she forced herself to straighten in her chair and hold her head up. She looked exhausted, the product of too many long nights sitting awake with little Mequen, despite his countless assurances that the baby was perfectly fine. He looked at his wife now, at the little differences in her, and wondered—not for the first time—if he had done the right thing by loving her.
“You could have been queen,” he said, not quite a question.
She looked at him and shook her head. “But I shouldn’t have been.”
He crossed the room and knelt by her side, taking her hand and pressing it to his lips. “Sarai, you are the queen of my heart.”
He couldn’t offer her power or riches, but when she smiled that lovely smile and twined her fingers through his, he knew that what they had was more than enough.

Aww, this is so sweet! I like how it's him having doubts, but that Sarai knows that Dove would make a better queen than her.

Oh, this is splendid! I like that they're so happy together, and it's really what's better for Sarai.

Oh, I love the two of them as parents! And here (as in the book) I love Sarai's understanding that she shouldn't be queen.

Oh, Zaimid is so lovely, and you've written everything that I love about Sarai - her passion and beauty and understanding. You've portrayed their relationship very strongly - I just love this!
