Title: Fear Rating: PG Prompt: #1, feelings and emotions Category 250 words and under Word count: 244 Summary: Alanna tries to like what she sees in the mirror.
It was difficult, sometimes, to look at herself, to try and see what others saw. The knight, the Champion. All her life, she’d been trying to be better, trying not to fail, trying to show herself she could do anything. Balancing the razor’s edge between strength and abject terror, she’d gotten through it all and come out mostly whole on the other side. How was this any different?
There was work to do, there always was, but was anything ever enough? She’d climbed so many impossible mountains, it felt lazy to just sit back and do ordinary tasks, be a wife, a mother, a knight. She brushed a hand over the swell of her abdomen. Mother. Goddess, how was she ever going to do it? Something was going to give, to break. Either she’d fail her child or she’d fail her country. And that niggling voice she’d hoped to leave behind in her youth was back, telling her she would never be good enough.
Of course it was George who found her, examining her new shape in the glass, and pulled her away with a laugh and a grin, one of his large hands resting on the formerly flat expanse of her stomach. Somehow, with a few words and a kiss, he pushed the fear away, forced her to see that this was just another epic adventure, and that they’d come through it together, side by side. For now she let that be enough.

I love that Alanna's having doubts and worrying, and that it's George who manages to reassure her in the space of a few moments. I think it shows their characters and relationship really well.

This was so beautiful, and heartwarming. I liked how you used the mirror; such a powerful setting to set this against. I loved it.
