Title: Realities of War Rating: PG Prompt: #2--walk the line. Category: 100 words. Word count: 100 Summary: Yuki knows the realities of having a man on the warfront. *** Of the women who wait for a man to return, most know the realities of war. A man who is surrounded by the bleakness of war may stray from his promises. Even at the furthest northern posts, there are women. Yuki knows these realities and does not hold onto delusions of Nealan remaining exclusively faithful to her. She would be a fool. When she tells Shinkokami this, the princess only says, "he may surprise you, Yuki." When they are reunited—finally—Neal picks her up and twirls her around, and when she meets his gaze, she sees no guilt there.

This is absolutely lovely. There's a touch of angst, but in the end, it's all uplifting and beautiful.

This is an interesting look at something that I've never thought about - unfaithfulness at war, and it's beautiful, especially in the way that you've captured Yuki.

This is so sweet! I love the use of unfaithfulness as a genuine concern on the home front. And of course in the end, Neal would never cheat on her

Oh, this is gorgeous! I love how Yuki approaches Neal's possible infidelity with a level head instead of getting emotional, and Shinko's faith is sweet

I like how Shinko comforts Yuki But also that Yuki isn't upset or angry, she just accepts what may happen. She really is a strong character and you portray that well. Good job!

This piece just rolled so smoothly. I love the optimistic, hopeful, and heartwarming message to it, and the beauty of such a pairing.

@mandi: I know. Silly Neal and Yuki--I think they're trying to best Roald and Shinko with the pretty. Thanks. @rachy: Considering the concept of "camp followers" (prostitutes who follow an army) is mentioned in canon, it can't have been unheard of. I think what Yuki was getting at was that war is bleak and depressing and ultimately, pretty lonely. (Especially during this time period). domluvr: Thanks! Alliecat: Thank you! Rowena: Yuki wouldn't throw a fit over the possibility that Neal maybe cheated on her. It is what it is, or so it came across to me when I wrote this. It doesn't mean he doesn't care for her. Thank you! @joa: Roald and Shinko vs. Neal and Yuki--which pairing can be prettier? I think they're competing.
