Title: Clockwork Rating: G Prompt: Same but different Category: Up to 250 words Words: 212 Summary: Nothing ever goes unchanged.
:::
There is a reason people dread the passing of time.
One never knows what the future will hold. All may change in the time it takes to slash a sword or declare a vow. Predictions are never certain, not even those of a mage. For it is not only future actions that will change, but emotions and impressions. It is the people who transform.
And that is why she stands here, terrified of never feeling the same. Time will slither, alliances will emerge, and all will shift.
There is nothing she can do. People have tried, and all have failed. The clockwork moves forward eternally, regardless of the world’s desires.
She stands here, her head on his chest, holding him close. She breathes in his scent before releasing reluctantly. Her voice quivering, she wishes him luck with Claw.
And then he is gone. This era is gone. He will never look the same, neither in her heart nor in her eyes. She stares at the door long past its closing, her mind busy.
She promises herself that she will never forget this moment, that she will never loose her essence of him and his love. She thirsts to remember what most people do not.
Because it is too precious to be lost.
