Title: Barbaric Foreign Customs Rating: PG Word Count: 37 Summary: Cultures clash, upon marriage. Notes: I'd intended this to start a longer fic, but I'm having too much fun with this format.
"It's barbaric!" hisses Kalasin, glaring at him as if he was personally responsible for centuries of slavery; Kaddar knows northerners are dismayed by the custom, but it is not something easily changed – he wishes Kalasin understood that.

Heh, nice portrayal of Kalasin and Kaddar - way for a rocky relationship!

Thanks, guys. And as for the reality, you know, I love Kally/Kaddar fluff, but I love their conflict even more - and it is a touch of reality.

I'd love to see a longer version, love how realistic it is. I always imagined Kally to be a bit like Kel in this sense, since she had wanted to be become a knight.

queenscovegirl: Kally is a bit of an idealist, and she comes from Tortall, where slavery's illegal and the monarchs show some caring for the lower classes - and Carthaki society is different. Thank you.

I kind of like the idea that Kally might not be right - I mean, she's morally right, but there's more than just morality in the issue.

Like the potential utter collapse of the empire's economy if Kaddar said "lol, you can't keep slaves anymore" out of the blue? (*cough*TQ*cough*). The potential giant uprising he could have on his hands? Yeah.
