I love fanart, though I don't have a ton of experience making it.
I thought I'd see if anyone wants to share ideas about what inspires them to create fanart.
I mostly do photo-based icons, and in a book-based fandom, step one is whether anything I see visually inspires me to think of the characters (& props to the casting threads on this board!). But I also use song lyrics a lot.

Unfortunately I don't actually "publish" fanart on here, but I get ideas about what I think would make good fanart from everywhere. Sometimes I just browse photobucket and the Internet and try to see if different pictures would work for different ones. Its kind of fun to do. - Sarra

Listening to music. I can easily imagine what the characters will be doing with music playing.
Sometimes I'll daydream. Though I usually scrap those thoughts instead of draw them.
Looking at other's artwork helps.
There's probably more things that can inspire me.

Usually I'm just reading threads or the books and think 'that be funny if...'. I only really scribble comics (usually during class or when I should be studying) since my artistic talent is laughable at best.
Like just a second ago I was reading something about Neal and Volia! There is now a comic in the middle of my study notes.
I should post some...

My fanart is more image based, so usually it's an image that catches my eye, but sometimes a quote or idea will get stuck in my mind from the most random of places.

Usually I have an idea of who looks like who, so if I see/am watching something with those people, I'll sometimes spot something that looks like the characters I associate them with.

I usually draw about whatever book it is I'm reading. And more often than not I draw guys, because I have a hard time drawing girls. I do draw girls occasionally, I'm not sure exactly what inspires me to draw. I just do. I'm rarely without a sketchbook and a pencil. I've actually found that I can concentrate on lectures better if I'm drawing/doodling. Which one teacher didn't believe once, so he confiscated my sketchbook so I spent the next week of classes daydreaming and then I failed my unit test. He gave me back my sketchbook after that and I aced my next unit test. So it works. Or at the very least, my mindset is that it does. Ramble ramble ramble.

Funny quotes Funny sayings I want to put on a sig, since I don't really draw. (Okay, I try to and it's bad. I admit it )

You know, I always though it would be amusing to go through the Chinese Whispers game thread and draw random sentences from it. The result could be quite amusing.

I feel like I need a new sig and avatar combo. Any ideas/suggestions?
