Title: Arrow Rating: PG Notes: Part of the 'Love is not Enough' drabble series. Summary: There is blood on his hands.
The arrow takes the unsuspecting Duke Baird in the stomach, and he lurches forward from the force of the blow, almost losing his balance as he stumbles to stay up. Wyldon looks up at the tree, but the man is gone, having taken his parting shot. Baird’s hands move to the wound, emitting a pale green glow as his Gift examines the damage. His shoulders slump slightly, and as Wyldon calls for a healer, the other man shakes his head. A look into the mage’s eyes tells him that nothing can be done. He nods once, moving to him, and as he sits the Duke down, he can’t help but notice the blood on his hands.

The acceptance of death, with it's sadness yet clear thought, is stunning in both men.

I like the end - "can't help but notice the blood on his hands" - works literally and implies culpability.

I love how together the characterisation is on this. It makes it all so much more powerful.
