I'm Alana/Chocolate! I'm in high school, and an archaeology geek. I've loved Tortall for since I was twelve, but I haven't been as much of an Emelan until more recently. I just finished Melting Stones. Not my favorite, but I'll always be more of a Tortall fan anyway.

*pulls up chair and sits* Archeology, eh? I can see we are going to have lots to talk about. Archaeology is my unofficial major. I'd love to pursue a career in it. I applied for field school this summer but didn't get in Any particular area of the world you're interested in? I'm Fate btw Welcome to Goldenlake.

Hey! I'm Kat, welcome to Goldenlake. I usually go by Treanz/Treanz-Alyce on other places. Are you on Livejournal or ff.net?
Also, what did you think of Will of the Empress? I am more of a Tortall fan but WotE is my favourite Pierce book.

Hello and welcome, Alana! My name is Lanna, and I, too, have been a Tortall fan since I was twelve. That seems to be the magic age when it comes to Tammy's books, for some reason. I know very little about archaeology, but I've always been interested. Seconding Fate's question, is there any area or type of archaeology that you fancy in particular? Be sure to check your board inbox -- there should be a message for you shortly.

Hi Alana! I'm May- welcome to Goldenlake. I see my fellow Welcome Wagon mod, Lanna, has beat me to it and sent you a welcome message, but just to say that if you have any questions you'd like to ask either of us will be happy to answer them. And archaeology? Ooh, interesting. I'm thinking about doing that at university one day.

Hello! Everyone here is so nice! I haven't read Will of the Empress for a while. I remember I liked it, I should really reread it! I do have a lj, I'm magelet10. I made it in my Numair phase. Go away. Rojo made my avatar. Rojo is awesome. Mhm. Ooh, I'm so excited about all the archaeology excitement! I'm an intern at my Natural History Museum, which has a big archaeology. It's focused on Ohio archaeology, which I wasn't too in to at first, but now, it's a lot more interesting. We've got the snake mounds, and Hopewell, and a *mysterious* disappearance! But my true love is the Middle East. I was visiting relatives in Israel last year and went on a tourist dig, from... Hellenic times? I don't really know much about categories. What about you? I don't know very much about the North West Coast. Of North America, right?

Oooh, snake mounds! I would love to learn more about them, my knowledge know basically consists of 'they exist'. Local archeology can really be fascinating and I maintain a belief that North American archeology is not nearly appreciated enough. We just don't have large scale temples or monuments that the average person can see. You learn to get excited about a depression in the ground and the knowledge that there was once a house there I think I have died from envy, you may resurrect me any time you wish. North America, yes. I'm based in the Canadian NWC. I've only taken a few classes so far but what I have taken I've loved. The NWC is so unique to the rest of the world and the archeology is actually mind-blowing (did someone say underwater archeology?)! Again, I blame the disinterest on a lack of large scale monuments. But the NWC simply does not have the ideal materials or environment for preservation. p.s. Perhaps you and I need our own thread so we can nerd it up?

I didn't notice until I read this that you were from Ohio! w00t!! Me too. I love the Serpent Mound - my parents are birdwatchers and hikers, and I've pretty much lived in central Ohio all of my life, so we traveled all over and I grew up knowing various places (like Clifton Gorge and Kelly's Island) like the back of my hand. Great geology here. And as Fate said, very under appreciated.

Um. So I should have mentioned I have no time. Rojo is a traitor. Also, *:)poke* Underwater archaeology? We really need an archaeology thread... and Lisafer, I'm jealous@ I live in northeast Ohio, so I've been to Kelly's Island, but not the Serpent Mount... yet.
