Hum, hullo. I'm Cha, Cha Hoppy; I go by that mostly everywhere on the net now...
I found this lovely place from my watching the PierceFic community on Livejournal -- haven't yet gotten a chance to really read anything there. Terrible, I know.
I've been reading Tamora Pierce books since I believe Freshman year of High School, so seven years ago. My friend was reading The Magic Circle quartet in our German class, and she recommended them to me. I borrowed her copies, fell in love with the characters and writing style and have been slowly collecting more of the series over the years.
I've read the Circle books first, then TC & TQ, moved onto SoTL, then to Immortals, and finally PoTS. I haven't yet read Beka or Melting Stones but they're on my shelf waiting for me to get to them...
I'm currently a Junior in College in Wisconsin, majoring in English and a minor in Art. I'm a fan of TP (obviously) but I also like Terry Pratchett's Discworld Novels, Jane Austen, and the Harry Potter series. I've been around proboards site far longer than I've been reading TP (around a decade, I believe now), but mostly I've stuck to HP RPG, in fact I currently run one (H:TEC). Aside from that, I enjoy making and working with computer graphics as well as drawing. I have a Deviant Art account, and I'm still working on trying to draw more TP fan art, but alas College has other plans for my time.
Hum, I think that's really the gist for me ... or what I can think of to write in this little spiel about myself...
So... Hi ^.^

Hello and welcome aboard, Cha! I'm Lanna, and if you have any questions, I (or May) will be more than happy to help. In addition, a message should be headed your way shortly, so be sure to check your board inbox. Interesting that you read Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen before the Alanna quartet! I'd imagine it would be a little confusing, but perhaps it's detached enough from the rest of the books to not be? Now that you've said you're an Austen fan, I am obligated to ask: which is your favorite work of hers? Your art looks lovely! I'll have to poke through your account a little later today.

Thank you for the welcome ^.^
Looking at each of the groupings of books, I don't think one would be too confused if they were read out of order. Yes, there is something lost with not knowing the back stories of other characters, but for each of the series, it really focuses on that heroine that not having reading the other set of books before a certain one doesn't matter too strongly, in my opinion. It does if you're trying to keep events straight (like this happened before this and what not (the wars/battles)), but the stories themselves flow well enough if one were to read SoTL, Immortals, PotS, or TC & TQ as stand alones without thinking too much about the others.
As it is, I think I only finally read the other Tortall books Spring Semester last year and this year. I'm not sure what drew my attention back to the TP world -- probably the fact I finally got the SoTL and part of Immortals for Christmas last year, I imagine. So there was actually a large break between my reading TC & TQ and then SotL.
As to Austen. It would be expected for me to say P&P, but I don't think it's actually my top favorite, first I read but not the top favorite. Lately my favorite has been Persuasion. My favorites tend to toss being Persuasion then P&P or Mansfield Park (in that order), then S&S or Emma, and finally Northanger Abbey.

Yay, Persuasion! I'm madly in love with Captain Wentworth, and I think Austen's writing was FAR better in Persuasion than any of the others. Welcome to Goldenlake - I think you'll fit in splendidly with the crew we have here!

If I remember correctly, Persuasion was the last full novel she wrote, so that can account for why the writing seems much better. I think that's partly why I dislike Northanger, or rather it's my least fav, as the writing bothers me, it being the first one she wrote.
Thank you for the warm welcomes ^.^

Heylo! I'm Jai -- nice to "meet" you.
What sort of art are you studying?

Hullo Jai, nice to "meet" you as well ^.^
Currently, I'm not really "studying" Art, as I'm working on getting the core classes I have to take done (though currently I'm in 2D Design and Art History 2, if that's any help). I'm hoping that I will be able to take it towards Computer Graphics, but considering I'm more than likely taking the last two classes to fulfill my minor Spring semester of my senior year, we'll see what I end up taking -- hoping to take some computer graphic course but it may turn into more random art if I can't get into the classes...

Yep, you're absolutely right. I also like that the plot is very quiet in comparison to others - there's less of a raging fire of romance and more of an intense smoldering.

Smoldering always seems to be better ... much more drama compared to the "raging fire" of romance. Fire is nice, but I like the tension that smoldering creates ^.^

Hi Cha, I'm May (the other Welcome Wagon mod Lanna mentioned.) Welcome to Goldenlake! Like Lanna said, if you have any queries about the board, feel free to ask me or her.
Ooh, Persuasion! That's my favourite Jane Austen! ;D

:waves: Hullo ^.^
Thank you for the welcome. I'll be more than happy to ask if I have any questions, as it is I'll probably just be a random figure around here, lurking more than half the time and random posting in threads the rest or something like that ... unless this place breaks my current trend with discussion boards ^^
Though hopefully tomorrow or this weekend I'll be able to post something up in the Fan Art section
But yay for Austen fans ^^

Eek, I did my dissertation on Jane Austen. We have (or, rather, had) a discussion going in the Film, TV & Lit forum - you should join in!
Welcome, by the way ;D
