Hey. The username is OpalGirl - call me Opal or use my real name - Val - it doesn't bother me. I answer to it all. I've been reading Tammy's books since I was young - twelve or thirteen - but never quite had the courage to jump into fandom and start posting until the late part of '08. I don't think I 'know' anyone here, since I joined the Dove just as it was dying... In short? Don't hurt the newb.

Hello, from noob to newb! :] There are a lot of amazing people here, so I can't imagine anyone hurting anything. Especially something as precious as a newb.

Hello and welcome to Goldenlake, Opal! No need to worry about being attacked, for, as a general rule, we don't bite. Hard. Really, though. I'm Lanna, and if you have any questions, I (and May, I am positive) would be more than happy to help. Keep an eye on your board inbox -- a message should be headed your way momentarily.

Rosie: Thanks for the welcome. My efforts have been in other fandoms up until the late part of '08, but I finally made the leap to Tortall: - Me @ ff.net and my fic journal (unlocked) @ LJ. Be warned; I am Queen of the WIP and will often forget about a fic for months at a time, if it's multi-chapter, but I love my one-shots more than anything. Lisafer: Hi. Thanks.

Hey! Welcome to Goldenlake I'm Kat, though I go by Treanz on most other places. Don't worry, everyone here is very friendly. (Not to mention, our rules are fairly explicit on what happens to anyone caught being rude or mean to a newb)

Hi! I'm Jai and I can totally relate to the not having courage thing. I've stalked some boards for...well, a long time. Hope you enjoy your fandom de-lurking!

Hi Opal! Welcome to Goldlenlake I'm Wild. Do you have any favourite characters/series/pairings? *Whispers* Actually, I'm that crazy Maritimer on your LJ f-list, so not entirely new to you. *stops whispering* - Favourite series? Gah. Too hard. I love them ALL. The Trickster books slightly less so, but they're all awesome. - Pairings: - Jon/Thayet - Alanna/George - Raoul/Buri - Alan II/Lianne II - Kaddar/Kalasin (II) - Daine/Numair. - And... I don't write it, but RogerXEverybody is amusing. - Will read practically any pairing. - Characters: - George. (Because George is awesome.) - Myles. - Kel. - Thayet. - Numair. - Kalasin II. - Katty... I think your very old Tortall talk show fic was one of the first I read. I laughed so hard.

I don't think it's fair for you to pick favourites now. Really. And I realize that fic is very, very old - but it was hilarious to me at the time. *reflects*

...... you are totally my new favourite newb Now, really, Kat, I'm surprised at you. As Welcome Wagon mod, I am here to inform you that every new member is equally wonderful in his or* her own way. You cannot possibly choose favorites before you've even met them fully! *Takes Mr. Rogers' sweater off.* That said, the fact that George is at the top on your favorite character list and Myles is on it at all is pretty awesome in my eyes. And I seem to recall a talk show fic, but I can't remember it at all beyond that. I may have to start poking around for it now. * Do we have any boys yet? I don't believe we do. Hm.

^ - I <3 Myles. I love how he pretended to be the oblivious Court drunk, when he was definitely onto Alanna at some point. Seems to me that by WWRLAM, he wasn't drinking to excess (nobody mentions it) and I doubt Eleni would marry a drunk.
- Also, as I said, George is awesome. Not bashing anyone's ship, but he balances Alanna really well - and, in my own head, Alanna as Queen of Tortall would've led to Jon being reduced to a smoking hole in the ground. (Can you imagine her reaction when Jon wanted to marry HER daughter off to Carthak?)
Aside from shippiness, George is awesome all in his own right. I was hoping to get him for Christmas this year, but it didn't work out.

I completely agree! Myles is such an interesting character to me, because he's both exactly what you're expecting and a complete surprise. He's warm and kind force throughout the books, but he's also a crafty bugger when he wants to be or the situation calls for it.
This, too. I am very much not an Alanna/Jon fan (no offense to shippers, of course). I just don't see their relationship ever working. Whereas George and Alanna have both things in common and complementary differences, I feel that Alanna and Jon clash in more intimate settings. She challenges him, which is perfect for her position politically, but if they lived together for a prolonged period of time, I'm afraid it would slowly dissolve into a tense dissonance. George, oddly enough, is a constant for her and calms her without extinguishing her fire. I think Alanna and Jon would end up trying to change each other, and both sides would be hurt for it.
Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I'd thought I was over being a fangirl of his, but I always come back for more!

Val! I completely missed you until I saw your link to the country stars AU thread over on LJ cause I haven't checked the welcome wagon in a while, and it's awesome to see you here! (The fic quality is rather higher than it is over at the Pit, I reckon. )

(The fic quality is rather higher than it is over at the Pit, I reckon. ) We've been talking about how Frostpine/The Ladies is canon and you just now notice me? Eh. It's not even the quality of the fic - I'm coming in from a pretty big fandom and have a hard time finding good!fic I haven't already read.

Ah, no worries. My LJ username is stupid. Barring paying the Russians money, I can't change it.

See above. I'm not paying the Russians a ridiculous amount of money to change my username, even though I hate it.

I caved in and changed my name, but that was before LJ was sold to the Russians. I think... I can't remember exactly but I was tired of WildKnight_20. Ahh, the creativity of my 14 year old self.

I have no questions, May... but would just like to say that I'm a horrible reviewer and therefore need to tell you:
Your fic ROCKS.
(No, this is not sucking up to the mod.)
