Title: Sunlight Rating: PG Length: 175 Prompt: 31_days: 7: Where were you when they broke the news? Summary: Growing up is strange to watch
The smile was wistful. It was a tilted, soft look to her fact that Daja did not remember in any part of the imperious young heir who forced other ladies to drink milk, and refused to be sensible over stray dogs.
Daja had seen yearning there, before. Anger, yes, and glee. She had seen her heart-friend thoughtful, seen her flustered. Had, at times, been the one to catch slow, fat tears on the edge of her thumb. But this wistful look, more so than the strain around her bright blue eyes or the twinned rings she wore, whispered Adult to Daja. That strange, far-away word they now were.
Sandry was wistful, as she held Daja’s hands. “You know, I’d never have thought of such things, ten years ago. Polyam was...she was so fierce, in all that dreadful yellow—I was all in a blur, sorting us, I suppose.”
A pause. A broader smile, humour tugging there. “Some things seem to always surprise me,” she said. A faint flush, now, that seemed to only make her eyes bluer, and then the brush of soft, familiar lips on her cheek. “But you look terribly happy,” Sandry said.

There's so much depth of emotion here, and you really portray the intensity of the bond between Sandry and Daja. This piece makes me happy and wistful right along with them.

Oh, I love your look at Sandry through Daja's eyes - it's a perfect depiction of their closeness, and it's so deep and precious. These two are my favorites from the Circle-verse (along with Crane!), so reading this made my heart soar just a bit.
