Title: That's Your Name, Isn't It, Boy? Rating: G Summary: "You," he repeated, at the same volume, but slower, "called me Briar!" A small missing snippet, featuring Briar and Rosethorn. Notes: A little Emelan one-shot - I've been re-reading the original quartet and got back into the voices, I think. Set early during Sandry's Book. *** Briar stayed where he was, lounging on the thatch as the girls returned to their lessons. Rosethorn knew by now – he did not come unless called, and she would call if she wanted him. Daja shook her head at him as she turned to clamber down the ladder. "You bait trouble, thief-boy," she said, and he ignored her. He waited, shading his eyes from the afternoon sun. "Briar!" Rosethorn's crisp, mildly irritated shout reached his ears, and if he hadn't been flat on his back, he thought for sure that he would have fallen off the roof. He peered over the edge of the rooftop at her. She stood there, as she always did, her hands resting on her hips. "Briar!" she shouted once again, and he grinned at her. "I can see you!" "You called me Briar!" he shouted back. "What?" "You," he repeated at the same volume, but slower, "called me Briar!" He could see her sigh, annoyed and running out of patience. "That's your name, isn't it boy? Get down here! I'm not doing all this myself!"
