We must have the obligatory favorite characters thread!! Who were you drawn to? Were there any characters you liked because they reminded you of other people in Tammy's world(s)? I'll admit that I'm a huge fan of Beka - t here's something about her quiet determination that works with me as a reader. I also like that she's a more experienced girl in the ways of the world. ;D

I'll admit, I like Beka as well - I've never really *loved* any of the main characters in the Tortall series, but I love the fact that Beka has so much potential! Oh, and who doesn't like Rosto? Though I am hoping we'll see some more nobility in Bloodhound (and maybe even King Roger?)

As usual, I adore the entire supporting cast! (Beka took a long time to redeem herself to be because, as a Real Life Terminally Shy Person, she did not ping me as authentically shy at all.) I really loved the Ashmiller kids, because they were such heathens and because they made Beka's life just that much more complicated - their portions of the book were some of my favorites; likewise they were precocious (incorrigibly so!) without being irritating. I loved Tansy, too: finally the kind of young mother Pierce has been telling us about for the last howevermany years! And I thought she was both a strong woman and a well-written character, allowed to grieve and to show intense emotion appropriate to her grief and oh! The scene where she gets to say goodbye to her son! I want to take her home and give her a hug.

I have to agree with you on the Tansy front. It was nice to see someone who had been a willful and incorrigible child growing up to be a young mother. She was a very-well written character, and she was one of my favorite aspects of the book. Beka as a shy girl wasn't what I liked - I found that to be the one aspect of her character that didn't jump out at me as awesome. I just like the way her brain works.

Tansy deserves much more fandom love than she gets. She grew up, and she grew up well!
Oh yeah, I was able to grow to love Beka once I got past her non-shyness - hazard of an unreliable narrator: just because she thinks she's shy doesn't make it so. I do like the way she thinks - that she's never really off the job because she's just that dedicated to what she does (and somehow still finds times for friends and family.) Also, that she's badass. *grins*

I've never really *loved* any of the main characters in the Totall series You know, even though he was not The Main Character, I always considered Roger A Main Character. I liked Jack Ashmiller. He was determined to do everything to keep his family together and provide for them, something most people do not do nowadays.

I am a diehard Rosto Aniki and Kora fan lol. Agreed. I find them very interesting and I think I would be best friends with Kora and Aniki (and Rosto by association). I also believe that Kora/Aniki should be shipped way more often.

Agreed.
Kora reminds me of a merging of Kara and Kourrem, from WWRLAM. I mean this entirely as a compliment, for the record; I loved those girls.

Rosto, Kora and Aniki seemed like they were trying too hard to be cool. I like Tansy a lot, and for a while I almost shipped Beka/Tansy. I'm a sucker for lost causes.

I love Rosto so very much, but I also love Goodwin and Tunstall.
Possibly because they remind me of adult Raoul and Alanna - but also for their characters! and their joking fun relationship. And Goodwin is mature and kicks arse.

- Beka. On re-read, she really does ping as more of a shy person. She just learned to be bolder while on the job - adrenaline, perhaps? Ahuda had something to do with it? Anyway, the Lower City is her comfort zone and if she was all: "oh, don't... *flutters*" with Rosto or any other male, they wouldn't get the message. She may trick herself into being bolder, because she's thinking of herself as a representative of the law, not necessarily as herself. I can relate to Beka - I grew up in poverty, myself - and I love her loyalty to her people. - Goodwin and Tunstall - not just a pair. I love both their characters, for separate reasons. Tunstall seems harmless, besides his size - but there's more to him than brute force. Also, when you're not looking, he'll break your head. And Goodwin I just adore - we see her through Beka's eyes as snarky and harsh and sometimes outright scary, but then we see her off the job and... not so scary. - Finally, in minor character love? Nyler Jewel. <3. I don't know why, he's just my random minor character obsession from these books. - And I have to agree with what's been said about Tansy. Through Beka's view, you *do* sometimes just want to smack her... but then she redeems herself. I have to remember that she has a pretty limited world view and education - she's only trying to do what she knows how and sometimes, she reverts to her instincts, even if they're not always morally 'right'. When she says goodbye to her son, it breaks my heart. Every time. Damn it, Tammy.

Agreed on Goodwin and Tunstall. Lady Sabine is interesting to me, primarily because she's one of the only other Lady Knights TP has ever written, and the only one in this series so far. She seems to have an interesting backstory as well, what with being exiled.
I love Kora and Aniki too. Rosto less so, cause I could see him... I don't know, just being more of a jerk than those two. And no one has mentioned Ersken yet. He's like a cute puppy! XD

Goodwin is awesome! I love Tunstall too, but Goodwin is my favourite. I think it's great that we see so much more of her in Bloodhound. For some reason, her personality sort of reminds me of Alanna. And her husband reminds me of George, probably because he's so easygoing, and she's so...not.
