So, Thom has been on my mind a lot lately (as you may be able to tell, by matching up thread titles). It seems to me that Thom is the biggest waste of potential, in SOTL at least. I know he was stubborn, and rude, and self-important, but it would have been nice to see what time spent in close proximity to Alanna and her friends would have done to him.
I don't feel Alex is as big a waste of potential, though there are similarities, not least that the characters are both used up and spat out in Roger's grand plan.
Thoughts? Any other characters you'd have liked to have seen more of?

I wanted more Lindhall, he seemed like such a cool guy. Numair Book (2012) NOOOOOOO. Either way he runs an underground and has faced down Ozorne for years, Dude is really cool and one of my favorite characters.

Joren, actually. He could have been a thorn in Kel's side for years to come if he'd survived his Ordeal; as it was he was the Designated Sexist Schoolyard Bully. So sad.
I second wanting more Thom (which I am doing my best to remedy writing Thom Goes To The Palace from the plot ideas thread for Fate). I have to wonder if it was all that time alone with himself that made him so sour and self-important.

I wish we could have somehow gotten more Neal in his squire years. It would have been fascinating to see Alanna as the knightmaster with her surly squire.

I'm going to say Francis. He died so early on that we didn't actually see if he had any potential or not.
I always feel as if Gary was a little of waste. After ITHOTG his role gradually decreased. Alanna, John, even Raoul have made significant appearances in later books and series while Gary just faded into the background. That's how I feel about it anyway.

I agree about Thom. He could have been amazing.
And Francis too -- did he even get some dialogue? We hardly found out anything about him, either. I'd actually like to see a fic where Alanna saves him and stops being a fool about her Gift, and what happens with him etc.
And one more. Faleron. 'Nuff said.

Not even a single speaking line! Which makes me think it wasn't precisely fair to kill him off when the emotional impact was so low.
Not that I'd wish Tammy had killed off someone else, but still ...

Rikash. I would love to have known more about him during his younger years, maybe while he was in the Divine Realms?
And also, the Chamber of the Ordeal (I tell you, it counts as a character!). If I remember correctly, the Chamber has been around longer than the gods. But the gods created the world, on which the Chamber is located, so I always wanted to know how that came about.
Or was that the mountain-spirit-thing Alanna fought the Dominian Jewel for? That would be interesting to find out more about.
I think all my canon is getting mixed up inside my head.

I wish we could have somehow gotten more Neal in his squire years. It would have been fascinating to see Alanna as the knightmaster with her surly squire. I second that 100%. I'm sure that Neal was on the receiving end of Alanna's temper within an hour of being made her squire. Their personalities clash so beautifully. I think there should be a whole book dedicated to those four years. I would love to see the development of their strong bond, and the hilarity that ensues when the two of them are stuck together. I also wish we had more Thom time. For all that he brought Roger back and then died when he was SO CLOSE to a happy ending, I really, really like him.

I'm seconding Joren! I think also, Kaddar would have been interesting to see. Especially after ascending to Emperor.

Kara and Kourrem. Just having them make an appearance to let us know if the Bazhir life has changed regarding women at all would be nice (instead of only having Zahir's women-should-stay-behind-a-veil comment).
I would love a whole BOOK about them.

I'd like to know more about Uline and her experiences as one of the "royal ladies."

I think a book about any of the royal ladies could be interesting, come to think of it. I mean, I love the lady knights and all, but it could be nice to see Tortall through a totally different perspective, as well.
