I stumbled across Lost in Austen a few weeks ago quite by chance.
Have you seen it? Did you like it? Did you hate it? Why? Did you think it was just a visual version of fanfiction?
The scene in which Amanda makes Darcy mimic the scene in which Colin Firth wades out of pond was by far my favorite. Possibly just because I understood the reference. Also, watching Bingley drunk was both excruciatingly painful and extremely funny. In saying that I really was saddened by Jane and Bingley.
I also still haven't made up mind in regards to whether I actually liked the ending. I had this crazy theory that Amanda would somehow end up with Whickham.

I loved the programme and the concept, hated the ending. I was rooting for Wickham too I actually thought Amanda was going to go back to modern day, lesson learned, and find her own modern Darcy in a magical ending. Darcy was actually too Bronte for me; I don't like my heros that brooding. I really disliked the way they went with Collins, but I adored Mrs Bennet. Hilarious. Sam Mendes is apparently going to do a film version - set in NY. I guess the accent will help the main character stick out more?

It's definitely worth watching. As far as I know, it's a mini-series and is now also available on DVD. There are four episodes (although where I am, it was broadcast as two episodes). Basically, a lady named Amanda Price who is from modern day England somehow (I missed the first half hour and therefore the explanation for this) swaps places with Elizabeth Bennet. The events of Pride and Prejudice unfold, with the exception of Elizabeth not being present. As you can see, this would disrupt the story line quite a bit. Amanda's a very outspoken quirky character, so her antics make for a very amusing show. Plot lines change, things are revealed about characters that you would never have guessed and Amanda often comments that Jane Austen would have a fit if she saw what was happening to her characters. And I feel as if I've done Lost in Austen no justice at all in explaining it.

I am sure I e-mailed you about it when it aired, Lisa!
My favourite thing about LiA is that the characters retain their personalities, but people like Mrs Bennet are shaded in a different, interesting light. Alex Kingston plays Mrs Bennet and does a really fabulous job with it. The take on Wickham was my favourite part of the story, but I wish they'd done more with Georgiana and Lady Catherine, because they're two of my favourite characters.

That sounds absolutely delightful! I'll have to keep my eye open for it.
(You forget, Rosie, that I delete all your emails and promptly remove them from my memory.)

(You forget, Rosie, that I delete all your emails and promptly remove them from my memory.) I only forgot because that's what I do with your e-mails (am off tomorrow; expect to be bothered!) I genuinely think it's the sort of show that you'll like, and we can discuss, and subsequently delete!

I watched this today. It was a great show (much better than Admin Law study notes!) Also, fun fact: the actress who played Lydia also played Mary Boelyn on The Tudors
