Inspired by something Rosie posted elsewhere, what's an obscure piece of media or series etc. that you love, but no one else seems to know or care about?

Mostly old Aussie YA books. Has anyone else read any Catherine Jinks?
I’d say my most obscure ‘active’ fandom is Rowan of Rin.

Probably From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. It's not really all that obscure (it got 3 seasons) but I've never met anyone else outside of the fandom who's seen it or heard of it or even seen the Rodriguez/Tarantino film it's based on.
I think it's very underappreciated, particularly as an adaptation. It keeps almost all the story elements from the movie, but expands them and ties them together in a way that's much more fleshed out and compelling. I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, but it's a fun watch for writing/media analysis nerds who enjoy the kind of stuff Rodriguez likes to make.

mistrali I haven't heard of Catherine Jinks, but I love Rowan of Rin. My answer is along the same lines of 'obscure Australian books/authors' though. One of my favourite series when I was younger was the Chanters of Tremaris by Kate Constable. It wasn't until I mentioned them once here on Glake that I met anyone else who'd heard of them, let alone read them (apart from my mum 😅)!

Kypriotha Maybe that was me? I haven’t read them in a while, but I love the Chanters elements system, for obvious reasons. It still seems to be such an uncommon trope in books to be able to manipulate the elements. I don’t know anyone else who’s read them either. It’s great that your mum knows them! The other really obscure book that popped into my head was Shaedow Master by Justin D’Ath.

I agree, the magic/elements system was really cool. The other books I always felt were closest to the whole series vibe was The Old Kingdom by Garth Nix, especially Sabriel, but it was still really unique. Did you ever read the fourth/sequel book? I read it once and didn't enjoy it as much, so have it ignored it since. I'm pretty sure my mum bought them for me and thought they sounded interesting, so read them too (or at least the first one).

My friend introduced me to Chinese dramas. Specifically ones that are based off of danmei, aka Chinese BL novels. It's a very slippery slope. Technically with China's censorship laws the romance is removed or supposedly subtle, but it's really about as subtle as a sledgehammer.
Two very good ones on Netflix are The Untamed and Word of Honor. There were a couple more scheduled to release this year but the Chinese Government and Censors are really cracking down on the genre and, unfortunately, the actors as well. However there are some that are definitely worth watching.
