So this is kind of the twin to the audiobooks one I started in the Emelan section, but I figured it would be cool to also have a thread where people could post their thoughts on the Tortall audiobooks as well if anyone has given them a listen.
So far through my library I have listened to all of Alanna: The First Adventure and I am currently about halfway through In the Hand of the Goddess. Both books are narrated by Trini Alvarado. I have to say that I really enjoy Trini Alvarado's narration style. I can totally picture her as Alanna's voice, and sometimes having a book read to me, I notice lines I might have overlooked or forgotten in my regular reading.
For instance, the other day, I noticed that when Alanna was healing the soldiers with Duke Bsaird during the war with Tusaine, there is a line about how if Alanna had ever had fantasies of the glory of war, this was enough to disabuse her of them. That line definitely struck me as interesting because I do think the Tortall books often sort of glorify war, so it was nice to have my attention drawn to a line that focused on the opposite aspect, the horrors of warfare. Although it also was a bit amusing to me since I think Alanna does sort of retain that love for fighting and violence throughout her life even once she has seen the ugliness of warfare. So it's like she's not innocent of the horrors of war, but she still obviously likes fighting enough to dedicate her life to doing it. So sort of an interesting character detail that jumped out to me while listening.
So, anyway, any thoughts on the Tortall audiobooks? Which ones have you listened to? Which would you recommend?
