With the holiday season essentially upon us, and holiday films already appearing in cinemas (where cinemas are open at least...otherwise hopefully on streaming services), I thought it was a good time to talk about everyone's favourite festive flicks!
(This is an open thread, so please feel free to discuss any films that fit any holidays or festive occasions from this time of year - despite what mainstream media tells us, Christmas is not the only thing that happens in December!)
My friends host an Advent Movies series each year, where we watch a festive film each week for the 4 weeks before Christmas (which in this instance, I will confess, means a Christmas film).
One of my old favourites is Home Alone 3. This year we're watching a new favourite, Arthur Christmas.

One of our favourite Christmas movies is Christmas with the Kranks, mostly for the sheer absurdity of the whole scenario. I honestly cannot imagine caring so much about what my neighbours do for Christmas.
I also love Scrooged and Miracle on 34th Street, which I haven’t seen in a while but used to watch with my mum growing up. Scrooged has got to have the best one liner in a Christmas movie ever.
Last Christmas I watched Noelle and The Christmas Chronicles and really liked them, looking forward to watching the sequel to The Christmas Chronicles in the next week or two.
Since getting Netflix my mum makes it her mission every year to watch every single Christmas movie they have. Good, bad or indifferent, she’s watched them all. Not bad for a woman who claims to hate Christmas.
Our highlight this year will probably be watching the Bluey Christmas Special. Because now my life revolves around a cartoon dog and her family. But it’s such a good show that I don’t even mind.

Klaus is my current favourite!! I love the origin-story idea, and Margu reminds me of one of my nieces.
If ever a thread were made for me, though... I am pretty sure I have seen all of the Netflix offerings (my least favourite was unfortunately Dolly Parton's, my most favourite Jingle Jangle, very bizarre how they all feature their own songs, though, did Netflix make a request so they aren't paying so many royalties?).
Annually, I watch Gremlins with my brother-in-law, though unfortunately with lockdown restrictions, we won't get to do it till Boxing Day this year. I also generally watch Love Actually/The Holiday/Family Stone with my mum, but obviously that is also out of the question at the moment too.
Darlene Love sings a few of my favourite Christmas songs so I loved watching her pop up in The Christmas Chronicles 2.

I grew up watching Home Alone and Home Alone 2 on Thanksgiving night to welcome in the Christmas season, so those films will always have a soft spot in my heart, and I think they are pretty hilarious. Elf is also good for that comedic touch.
Classical favorites of mine also include It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol, which have timeless and powerful messages.

Oooh Rosie I completely forgot about The Holiday! I love that movie too! Ahh, part of it is set near where I grew up, and it’s such a lovely feel-good film!
